I think this is the first time I have made Chex Party Mix. I might have made this back in the 80’s but I cant be sure. I have vague recollection; but it might have been me just eating what someone else made? I have seen so many people posting that they bought their ingredients and were making theirs. I guess I had a little FOMO so here is the one I tried. I went the sweet and salty version because I love sweet and salty. If it goes well, meaning not just me eating this, I will try making the savory version.
I was curios to when this Chex mix phenomenon all started. It started back in the early 1950’s by Ralston Purina; which is now General Mills – makes sense. It made the cover of Life Magazine in 1952. The original recipe had Worcestershire sauce and was named “Party Mix” kind of funny that no one made a pre-packaged version until 1985. I hope you enjoyed a little history of the origin of what you are all either making or eating.
There seems to be an endless options listing for cereal, nuts and crackers so let me know what are your favorite options. I would love to hear from you how they differ from this one I made. I know I didn’t have saltines on hand but I did have an unopened bag of pita chips so I broke them up a bit and added them into the mix.
