My garden is producing a few things besides weeds and one of which is broccoli. My mother will like this story. When I was a kid I did not like green vegetables. I think all I would eat was cucumbers and ice berg lettuce. I can tell you exactly when I started eating broccoli it was June 1990. Why do I know this? I was pregnant with my daughter and it was getting towards the end of my pregnancy and my blood pressure was up so my mother made me some rice with broccoli in it thinking green veggies would help.
After this I started buying broccoli on occasion, it is not like today where I actually grow it in my garden or pick up a head or two from my local grocery store. I seem to always have it on hand now. And I don’t have to have it smothered in cheese sauce to eat it. I kind of did the same with asparagus. I wanted to like it but just couldn’t bring myself to. I used to smother it in hollandaise sauce. Now my favorite is just a little olive oil salt and pepper and either grill or roast it. Look out how I have evolved.
